The Good Dinosaur (2015)

Character Modeling and Rigging, Bugs Project Leadership

Fully modeled and rigged an extensive number of characters for an earlier/cancelled version of the film (2011 - 2013), including substantial contributions to Spot in an earlier design revision and the very first model/rig pass at Arlo. The earlier work also included leading a team of 7 technical artists in developing a large library of massive insect models, model/rig work on Arlo's siblings and family, developing a “Spikey” insect from ZBrush through model and rig (all mostly unseen in the final film), secondary, tertiary, and BG models for various species of dinosaurs (Apatosaurus, Parasaropholous, Triceratops), and some BG humans.

For the final film, modeled/rigged a legged Snake and Spot’s adopting family. Also hopped departments to assist with volumetric Cloud compositions / set dressing in Houdini during a lull in demand for character work. Independently organized an informal “Model Night” ZBrush sculpting group and helped a consulting UC Berkeley entomologist develop a paper on 3D printed insect traps.

Dino was a production that went through a very tumultuous process. I was heavily involved in an earlier version of the film, though the characters that made it to screen were modified from those original versions.

My stint on the second go of the film started with working on the model and rig of this ferocious snake.

I also modeled and rigged the family that connects with Spot in the later stages of the film.

The original Spot that I worked on was more tank than Mowgli (see private production materials!)

I also worked a ton on earlier model / rigging passes at much of the family. Even Arlo, where I built the very first iteration for a "diorama" build. At that time the design had more of a "muppet" character.
